Exmissions

After completing their preschool years, children move on to a variety of both independent and public schools. To help reduce the anxiety often associated with this process, Cristina Huang, the Director of the school, works closely with parents by guiding them in their choices of ongoing schools for their children. Parents can meet with Tina in the spring preceding the submission of applications and ongoing conversations are conducted as needed. Outside resources are used to provide additional information on the exmissions process. Parents are kept abreast of the latest information regarding new developments and open house schedules as they arise.

Brownstone is a member of the Educational Records Bureau (ERB), the organization that administers tests for children seeking admission to many ongoing independent schools. Our membership in ERB means that Brownstone students can be tested at the school. Tests are administered in the fall. In maintaining membership of ISAAGNY and ERB, the Brownstone School aims to help make transitions to other schools smooth.

The children of the Brownstone school go onto many different schools in the city, both independent and public. In recent years, Brownstone "graduates" have gone on to such independent schools as Allen Stevenson, Bank Street, Cathedral, Chapin, Collegiate, Columbia Grammar, Dalton, Ethical Culture, Fieldston, Marymount, Saint David's, Sacred Heart, Spence, Trinity and many others. The public school admissions include Hunter, PS 9 (Anderson and the Gifted & Talented program (G&T)), MSC, PS 87, PS 199 and other catchment area public programs.
