The Brownstone school is a non-profit school with a hard working Board of Trustees made up of parents and teachers. We aim to raise funds each year that can be re-invested in the program, whether it is a construction project or building a scholarship fund. Fund raising activities such as our Annual Halloween Fair, Spring Cocktail Party and Auction and children's concerts raise the bulk of money towards our fund raising goals. This is combined with our annual fund, which relies on parents, alums, friends and matching gifts to achieve our targets. There is a fund-raising committee which helps to set goals, recruit volunteers, and establish fundraising committees. This committee works closely with the Executive Board and the Director of the school.
The money we raise helps to fund the many projects involved in maintaining a historical brownstone building. In recent years, the following projects have been completed:
- New floors in all classrooms
- New playground
- New central staircase and carpeting
- New classroom furniture and toys (many of which are renewed annually)
- Restoration of stoop and painting of exterior
- New kitchen
- renovation of class bathrooms
We are happy that so many of our families have been so generous in helping us towards these goals. All donations are tax-deductible, as allowed to the fullest extent of the law.
Halloween Fun Fair
The Halloween Fun Fair is the first major school event after the start of school, and is always great fun for children and adults alike. Activities include pumpkin painting, wading pool fishing, sand art, face painting, and spin art. You can also buy gently used books, toys and clothing - and don't forget the homemade food. Outside vendors also sell such items as jewelry and children's toys. There's something for everyone at the fair!
The results of this year's fair are now available online.
The Halloween Fun Fair committee is formed in the spring to begin planning. We need parents to plan arts and craft activities, sort through, categorize and price rummage, solicit vendors, and do much more. This event requires all families to be involved on the day since it's such a big and special event.
Spring Cocktail Party and Auction
The Spring Auction is among our most successful methods of fundraising. It is typically held early in the spring in the evening. Parents and friends of the school gather to socialize and raise money for the school through bidding on silent auction items. Most items are donated by Brownstone families and local businesses, while others are projects created by the children in the classroom. It is a wonderful and fun way to bring the Brownstone family together.
Book Fair Sales
Book Fairs occur once or twice a school year, and typically last a few days to a week. The display for the books is set up outside of the office. You take home the books you purchase the same day. A good percentage of all sales are reimbursed to the Brownstone. Sometimes classroom teachers will make requests for certain books to be donated.
Year Book
The yearbook is produced each year by the Board of Trustees volunteers. Parents are asked to visit their class to take photos, both group and individual child, to submit for the yearbook. It makes a great memory of your child's early years at Brownstone School.
