Our Staff

The Brownstone school is proud of the skilled, warm and caring professionals who teach and serve as administrators. Many staff members have been here for nearly 20 years. Each room is staffed according to the Department of Health guidelines for children to teacher ratios.

Administration

Our administrative staff work hard behind the scenes to keep the school running well. Our administration is there for you -- from making sure students have all of the necessary medical paperwork to writing recommendations for on-going schools to ensuring the school structure is sound and the building is heated.

Cristina (Tina) Huang, who has been with Brownstone for over 20 years, is the Director of the school. She started her career at Brownstone as a teacher.

Teachers

Many of the dedicated teachers at Brownstone have been with us for many years and are a testament to the strengths of our program and the supportive, enriching environment we strive to create. Our teachers are what make the Brownstone so special. Each preschool class is staffed with at least three qualified teachers: a Head Teacher, Assistant Teacher and Teacher's Aide. All head teachers are members of the Association of Teachers in Independent Schools in New York City and are certified in CPR and first aid. We are fortunate to also have a large number experienced and credentialed Assistant Teachers and Teacher's Aides.

Student teachers and interns enhance our program throughout the year. The average adult/child ratio is 1:6 in the preschool program. Auxiliary staff from outside agencies, such as speech therapists and special education itinerant teachers, also works with children who have been determined to require services. We also have well-qualified teachers in music and movement to provide additional enrichment to our children. All staff members are carefully screened and cleared to work with children by the appropriate agencies.

Employment

The turnover of staff at The Brownstone is fortunately for us, very low. However, we are always interested in candidates of excellence.

Our ideal candidates care deeply about the education and esteem of young children and have the following credentials: teaching experience, an undergraduate degree and a Masters in Early Childhood (or working towards) and teaching certification in New York.

If you feel you can add value to The Brownstone School family, please fax your resume to 212-875-1013. Attention of: Cristina Huang.
